Summary

The Instrumentation Control Technician will repair and maintain a variety of plant instrumentation equipment in the water and wastewater treatment plants, field services, pumping stations, or other comparable installations. This position performs routine maintenance as scheduled, in accordance with maintenance planning, OSHA, MIOSHA, and other applicable regulations.

Job Responsibilities

Install, troubleshoot, replace, repair, test, assemble, and disassemble instrumentation equipment and devices at the water and wastewater treatment plant and other related facilities.

Perform calibration and adjustment of equipment and devices

Install and troubleshoot instrumentation equipment and devices for plant projects. Assist in conduit fabrication and installation of wire and cable

Maintain various records and prepare reports. Read and interpret plans, schematics, process control flow diagrams, and system/network drawings

Perform shift work, which includes all day, afternoon, night, weekend, and holiday assignments. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE)

Drive a motor vehicle on all terrain

Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties.

Provide on-the-job training

Required Education and Experience

At the time of application, applicant must:

High School Diploma or GED
One of the Following:

Completion of an approved Instrumentation Technician apprenticeship
OR

An associate degree in a related field and one (1) year of experience as an Instrumentation Technician
OR

Three (3) years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Experience working on Ovation Distributed Control Systems or Rockwell Automation Programmable Logic Controller

Familiarity with equipment, operations, practices, and safety precautions relevant to the water and wastewater treatment process
Other Requirements

Valid Michigan Driver's License

Ability to work irregular hours, to commute to varies facilities and work sites

Work is performed at the plants and various remote outdoor equipment sites. This position requires the ability to work in all conditions involving exposure to outside elements and seasonal weather. Work may be performed near open water, systems with hazardous chemicals that are acidic, highly corrosive, heat producing, and potentially explosive. The noise level in this work environment is usually loud. Work may be performed in confined spaces, hazardous areas that require respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE), and under slippery and wet conditions.

Electrical Engineer

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer - Water/Wastewater - to join our team. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting electrical, control, and instrumentation systems and equipment used in water and wastewater treatment processes and pumping stations. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal performance and in accordance with environmental regulations, OSHA, MIOSHA, and other applicable regulations. Full-time position with occasional overtime or on-call requirements as needed. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design electrical systems and components for water and wastewater treatment facilities including power, controls, and instrumentation.
  • Conduct load calculations to determine power requirements and size power distribution and standby power systems.
  • Stay updated on the latest electrical, control, and instrumentation technologies, trends, and industry standards.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and schematics.
  • Analyze and evaluate existing electrical systems for efficiency and reliability.
  • Propose and design improvements to enhance system performance and reduce operational costs.
  • Lead the electrical engineering aspects of projects from concept through completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with the design team.
  • Effectively manage project deliverables to meet budgets, schedule, performance specifications, and all regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and preferences for electrical, control, and instrumentation equipment.
  • Coordinate with the design team to identify hazardous areas and locations requiring special ventilation, monitoring, or explosion-proof electrical equipment.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with special requirements, codes, regulations, and standards as they apply to water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Work closely with architects, mechanical engineers, process engineers, and other professionals to integrate electrical systems with overall plant operations.
  • Provide technical support and training to maintenance staff and operators.
  • Conduct quality checks of electrical, control, and instrumentation installations to document compliance with design specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Comparable electrical design experience will also be considered.

Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in electrical engineering/design, preferably within the water and wastewater treatment or environmental engineering sectors. Strong candidates with a desire to learn the business will also be considered.

  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in local, state, and national building and electrical codes and regulations.
    • Strong understanding of electrical systems and their application to water and wastewater treatment facilities.
    • Familiarity with hazardous gas detection, monitoring, and control.
    • Familiarity with NFPA 820 and Recommended Standards for Wastewater Facilities including special provisions for work in hazardous areas.
    • Familiarity with EPA reliability criteria for implementing electrical systems in water and wastewater treatment facilities.
    • Experience with electrical design, creating design drawings, schedules, schematics, and specifications.
    • Experience with control and instrumentation design in processing or treatment facilities.
    • Ability to analyze complex systems and troubleshoot electrical issues.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
